Press Fn-Q to create a Quick Note.
Fn-Q is the built-in Quick Note shortcut on Mac. Hold the Function or Globe key and press Q. The note opens over the current app, so you can capture a thought without first finding the Notes window.
By default, Quick Note can reopen the previous note. In Notes > Settings, turn off “Always resume to last Quick Note” if you want a fresh note each time. Apple's Quick Note guide documents both behaviors.

Use a Hot Corner when your hand is already on the trackpad.
Move the pointer to the configured corner and click the Quick Note that appears. The bottom-right corner is the common default. You can change or disable the action in System Settings under Desktop & Dock > Hot Corners.
The keyboard shortcut is faster while typing. A Hot Corner is easier during visual work, browsing or calls when you are already using the pointer.

Save a Safari page or selected text to a note.
Use Safari's Share menu and choose Add to Quick Note to keep a link to the current page. You can also select text on a webpage, Control-click it and choose Add to Quick Note. The saved note keeps a link back to the source, which is useful for research and reading lists.
This workflow is more useful than pasting a bare quote because the source stays attached. It is also specific to Safari; other browsers may offer their own share extensions or require a normal copy and paste.

Quick Note is a capture feature. The full Notes app remains better for folders, tags, attachments, tables, collaboration and longer writing.

Many notch apps offer a separate scratchpad. Fide Island takes a different route: it can browse recent Apple Notes, search, create and edit while Apple Notes remains the source of truth. The goal is to shorten the path to a note without creating another place you need to organize.
macOS controls access through the Automation permission. If you leave that permission off, the rest of Fide Island continues without the Notes panel. Fide Island does not maintain a separate cloud copy of your Apple Notes content.
